CommonWealth Central Credit Union’s (CommonWealth) board of directors has the opportunity for someone to join their progressive and high-performing board who can provide thoughtful insights and diverse perspectives while understanding their membership and the communities they serve. CommonWealth is a long-established credit union with nearly 40,000 members in the Santa Clara County community and beyond. Candidates must reside or work in Santa Clara, San Benito, or Monterey County and be passionate about enhancing the financial well-being of our communities. A deep understanding of board governance and financial management is essential, along with a collaborative mindset and the ability to work effectively as part of a diverse team.

As a board member, you will leverage your expertise in leadership, strategic thinking, and passion for the community. The Credit Union is looking for someone who can bring a diversity of background and diversity of thought to the team. The ideal board member is committed to ensuring the financial safety and soundness of our membership and values contributing to boardroom discussions and decision-making. The successful candidate is a strong communicator with solid interpersonal skills, can easily connect with others, and have an appetite and desire to learn about credit unions and enhance their mission.

Essential Functions:

As an active board member, you will be mentored in an onboarding process to:

  • Understand the credit union’s strategic vision and targets
  • Participate in deciding the strategic vision and targets
  • Proactively participate in effective board governance and leadership
  • Learn about the products and services and how they benefit members
  • Gain knowledge of the credit union’s financials and overall performance

The average board member contributes a minimum of 100 hours a year to board and committee meetings and leadership conferences. You will have opportunities to participate in strategic planning sessions, community events, conferences, and board training seminars.

Directors are volunteers, and their contributions to the credit union are priceless. Directors are provided with a health insurance reimbursement allowance, an iPad, and all expenses paid for you and your spouse for approved conferences.

  • Associate Board Member (1 position open)
  • Supervisory Committee (1 position open)

Each position is elected by our members through a democratic vote for a three-year term. Please note that in-person attendance is required for monthly Board meetings held at our San Jose, CA Headquarters location.
