This is a pro-bono volunteer role. We are looking for someone to help oversee our small organization, be at the office for a few hours once a week, and occasionally represent our group at events. Annual budget is about $8K anually, of which $6K is spent on postage and on acquiring books that are in high demand (mostly dictionaries) which we generally do not receive via donations, and $2K on rent for our offices on Skinker. This would be a good fit for someone who is starting a career in not-for-profit administration, social work, or a similar field. It also would be a good opportunity for someone just entering into retirement and looking for a way to contribute to the community.

About MISSOURI PRISON BOOKS

Location:

8418 Knollwood Dr, Saint Louis, MO 63121, US

Mission Statement

We provide books free of charge, on request, to persons in Midwest prisons.

Description

Most persons in prison are unable to receive books except through expensive services. Prisons regulations prevent families and friends are prohibited from sending books. We accept donations of used books which are then sorted and categorized. Persons in prison write to us with their requests and we respond as best we can. If we do not have the exact title they ask for, we are almost always able to send a similar book to them via the US Post Office. At the moment we are providing approximately 1500 books per year to persons in prison in the Midwest. While some of the requests are for novels or other books of entertainment value, approximately 70% of requests are for books of an educational or self-help nature. --- Our office and library are located on Skinker Boulevard, just a few blocks south of Delmar.
