Fidget Items Needed!
We are seeking hand made donations of fidget quilts, lap pads, activity boards, and more, from local crafters and seamstresses for hospice patients who benefit from tactile engagement . Lap sized quilted rectangles with items sewn on, to fidget and play with and touch, are wonderful for many people with dementia, agitation, anxiety, and other forms of memory loss and distress. Items should be soft and securely attached, not a choking hazard, not removable, and if possible, washable.
Alzheimer’s/Dementia patients can become restless.
Fidgeting, wringing hands, tugging at clothing, picking at wounds, and trying to get out of their bed/chair are evidence of restlessness.
Restlessness may be a result of pain or discomfort, hunger, needing to use the toilet, a need for physical activity, muscle memory from previous job/life tasks, or anxiety.
Soothing/meeting the need to move/be active can be healing and calming for our patients.
We offer patterns, photos, descriptions, and videos, if you are interested. Please contact us for specifications. We'd love to receive your in kind donations which will be given to hospice patients in King, Pierce, and Kitsap counties.
