ECO: Help Survey the San Diego River

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: The San Diego River Park Foundation

Data from surveys of the river inform San Diego River Park Foundation's clean-up and programs throughout the year, playing an important role in developing the State of the River report, and is shared with multiple partners. This is a wonderful opportunity for members of the community who are interested in environmental conservation, community science, outdoor adventures, data analysis, and community engagement. Their Clean River Program updates this data year-round, but this is their unique opportunity to get a snapshot in time of exactly what the riverbed is looking like before the rainy season begins! Each team gets a specific segment they are responsible for documenting. They are guided by a trained leader who works to ensure it is a safe, fun and meaningful experience. Volunteers should expect to walk long distances, get dirty, possibly traverse through treacherous terrain, and have a great time!

Are you interesting in joining a team of community scientists to help better understand the trash and pollution along the San Diego River? River Blitz is the event for you! This event is a field survey of the lower 20 miles of the San Diego River. 3-6 person teams of community scientists walk the riverbed in the City of Santee and San Diego and document what they see on a special app, called Mappler.
