Serve as a Docent at The King Center

ORGANIZATION: MARTIN LUTHER KING JR CENTER FOR NON VIOLENT SOCIAL CHANGE INC

Our Docent Program is a unique opportunity for passionate individuals to engage and serve as trained tour guides to enhance The King Center's visitor experience.

Docent Roles and Responsibilities

* Engage Visitors- To welcome, initiate educational conversations, answer questions, and build connections with visitors.

* Lead Tours- Docents will lead educational and informative tours for individuals and groups.

* Enrich Experiences- Docents will offer unique perspectives and enrich visitors' experience.

Docent Requirements

* Age- Must be at least 18 years old.

* Passion- Have a passion for serving others through volunteerism.

* Time Commitment- Ability to commit to a minimum of 6 hours a month for 12 months. Weekend shifts available!

* Communication Skills- Be able to relate warmly to people from diverse populations, speaking a second language is a plus!

* Docents will have the privilege of educating visitors about a significant period in history, helping them gain a deeper understanding and appreciation for the fight for equality and justice.

* Develop valuable communication and presentation skills while gaining confidence in engaging with diverse audiences.

* Docents will earn community service hours and a certificate upon completion.

* Docents have the potential to earn academic credit for their participation.

* Docents will be able to receive a recommendation letter from King Center Staff.

* Docent will receive a discount from The King Center’s Bookstore and Resource Center.

* Complete and submit a Docent Application located within this posting or on The King Center website

* Qualified applicants will be invited to an interview.

Established in 1968 by Mrs. Coretta Scott King, The Martin Luther King, Jr. Center for Nonviolent Social Change ("The King Center") has been a global destination, resource center and community institution for over a quarter century.The King Center is a 501(c)3. Nearly a million people each year make pilgrimage to the National Historic Site to learn, be inspired and pay their respects to Dr. King’s legacy.

The King Center is repositioning to meet the challenges and opportunities of today. Squarely-focused on serving as both a local and global resource, the King Center is dedicated to educating the world on the life, legacy and teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., inspiring new generations to carry forward his unfinished work, strengthen causes and empower change-makers who are continuing his efforts today.
