23% of San Diego adults lack basic literacy skills, and with your help they can improve their reading and writing skills, resulting in increased confidence, gaining a better job, and helping their children with school work.

Tutor one-on-one, assisting low-literate, English-speaking adults with basic reading, writing, spelling, math, GED prep or the U.S. Citizenship exam.

We are seeking volunteers who are patient, flexible and culturally sensitive. We provide literacy training, and once trained, you will be matched with an individual at a San Diego Public Library branch near you for twice a week for 1.5 hours each time.

Must possess a H.S. Diploma/GED or higher, commit to 6 months of tutoring, and complete the 6-hour literacy tutor training.
