ORGANIZATION: FAIR OPPORTUNITY PROJECT

Fair Opportunity Project is an education non-profit that provides career and college support to high school students across the United States. We offer mentoring, essay editing, and financial aid guidance to students, with a particular focus on serving rural or low-income areas.

Our on-demand mentoring service offers students the opportunity to explore career options and develop a well-informed plan to guide them after high school graduation. By connecting directly with people in their career of interest, students can learn how to take these first steps towards a successful career.

Mentors must be based in the United States. We require that potential college and financial aid mentors have experience in the college application process: to have applied to and/or graduated college in the United States. However, if you’re looking to be a career mentor, we ask that you have graduated high school in the United States and have at least two years of work experience.

We are looking for mentors of diverse backgrounds and career tracks, and believe students should understand that there are many paths to a successful career. Whatever your experience has been, you can help a student build their own plan.

While we are seeking mentors in all career fields, these fields are in particularly high demand:

  • Medicine (Nursing, Dentistry, specialty fields)
  • Education
  • Computer Science

Most of our volunteers have other responsibilities including full-time jobs or education, and the volunteer role reflects that: mentors are able to adjust their availability freely and can take a break whenever they need. Students can choose to schedule a meeting with or send an email to any of our mentors based on who they feel is a good fit for their questions.

Description

Fair Opportunity Project (Fair Opp) is a nationally-recognized, federally-funded education nonprofit. Every year, Fair Opp sends free college application advice to over 63,000 public educators via our guide. We also have over 100 college and financial aid mentors who help students maximize their aid, put together winning applications, and file the FAFSA.

Fair Opp has been featured in Forbes 30 Under 30, the New York Times, and the Harvard Education Magazine.

We are able to provide these resources through private and public donors, and we are happy to say they are all free for students.
