AACI's Youth in Technology Incubator (YTI) is a free program for Santa Clara County residents ages 8-24 that uses arts and media to promote healthy lifestyles, positive skill development, social emotional learning, storytelling, confidence building and advocacy. The volunteer will develop real-world workshop facilitation experience by supporting YTI’s mission to promote healthy living, mental health awareness, and social emotional learning through their free arts and multi-media education for youth. They will educate college-age students on the importance of Behavioral and Mental Health services and spark their interest in pursuing career or volunteer opportunities within the field. This role will provide the volunteer with the opportunity to perfect their public speaking skills and develop educational content for college-age students, while encouraging their peers to support mental health services in their communities.
Duties and responsibilities
- Create a Behavioral and Mental Health workshop presentation, drawing from testimonies, research, and resources provided by YTI. The goal of the presentation is to educate about the importance of Behavioral and Mental Health services and provide information on pathways to enter the field as a career or as a volunteer.
- Outreach via email or in-person to college students/classrooms to schedule 5 presentations
- Deliver and facilitate 5 presentations to college students/classrooms/clubs (in-person presentations are preferred, but can also occur virtually as long as audience members are all college students)
- Distribute surveys to all audience members
Qualifications
- Current undergraduate or master’s student, or recent graduate of community college, four-year university, or master’s program
- Background check required (no cost for volunteer to complete)
- Ability to perform or learn the duties described above
- Have a background in public health or community outreach or are interested in gaining experience in public health or community outreach
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills; ability to communicate well with people of diverse cultural, professional and experiential backgrounds
- Comfortable with public speaking
- Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships as part of a multi-disciplinary team
- Must have personal computer with access to email
- If presenting in-person, must have reliable transportation to presentation site
- Familiarity with Canva a plus, but not required
