ORGANIZATION: Idealist.org

Recruiting Organization: Therapy Access Project

TAP is a grassroots community initiative based in Chicago, IL, with a mission to make disruptive change to the status quo for current access to and perceptions of mental health care, specifically in the LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC communities. TAP aims to remove barriers to access to identity-affirming and intersectional mental health care for these populations through volunteer-based services matching TAP program applicants throughout the U.S. We match with mental health providers vetted in our directory based on financial accessibility, shared identities, and shared values. TAP also works to remove the stigma against mental health care through developing free psycho-educational resources around accessing mental health care, understanding mental health conditions and experiences, and what to expect in mental health care.

We are looking for volunteers to join our social media team who are interested in spreading the message of our therapy matching services and resources as well as creating psychoeducational content and promote healing from trauma caused by racism, capitalism, ableism, cissexism, heterosexism.

Image description: In a warmly lit room, two Black women sit together on a bed, surrounded by blankets, pillows, candles, and a giant teddy bear in the corner background. The girlfriends are holding hands and looking at each other reassuringly while searching for a new therapist via laptop. The woman on the left is couched in a blanket nest while the woman on the right has her long curly hair adorned with clips and tied up in a ponytail.
