SPIN Girls Mentor Volunteer

Location:

The SPIN Girls Mentor Volunteer will work out of SPIN’s main office at 3407 NE 2nd St, Renton, WA 98056 and at designated sites and events as identified by the SPIN Girls Program Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

The SPIN Girls Mentor Volunteer:

(1) Attend 80% of Lab and Field Days + Orientation & Capstone

(2) Engage monthly with 1-3 mentees

(3) Provide a shadow opportunity for mentees

(4) Maintain prompt communication with program staff & report mentee activities

(5) Respect general SPIN policies

(6) Participate in mentor meetings, surveys and training

(7) Be open to building relationships with mentees and SPIN girls program staff.

SPIN Girls Program Manager

Length of Appointment:

The SPIN Girls Volunteer will serve in the SPIN Girls program for a length of no less than one school, up to three school years.

Qualifications:

SPIN seeks women of color* working or studying in a STEM field** who can manage mentoring and building relationships with 1-3 girls of color by providing a culturally-responsive and uplifting mentorship experience. Mentors need to be flexible in their methods of relationship building. Mentors should be experienced with connecting to youth in a positive way.

The SPIN Girls Mentor volunteer must undergo a background check and SPIN mentor training to work with students.

Support Provided:

An orientation to SPIN and SPIN Girls will be scheduled for the SPIN Girls Mentor Volunteer. In addition, attendance at quarterly volunteer meetings is required. The SPIN Girls Manager is available on an ongoing basis to answer questions and provide other assistance as needed.
