FRESH FOOD DRIVE VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
This holiday season, help our market gleaning partners feed those in need! Since 2010 we’ve hosted Thanksgiving Fresh Food Drives at our markets. Throughout November, we raise money from shoppers and community members to purchase fresh fruits, vegetables, and turkeys from our local farmers at market. This fresh market food is then given to the food recovery and emergency food assistance partner at each market and used to prepare Thanksgiving baskets or meals for neighbors in need.
We are in need of FRESH Food Drive Volunteers! Volunteers will help set up the apple cider station, hand out samples of warm apple cider, explain the purpose of the FRESH Food Drive, encourage online or cash donations, and help break down of the apple cider station at the end of the market.
The FRESH Food Drive will take place at all FRESHFARM Markets and Farm Stands that are open in November. This is our largest fundraising and volunteer event of the year, and it is a great way to get involved with FRESHFARM and our mission. Sign up to volunteer with FRESHFARM hereand we will get you scheduled!
Please email marketvolunteers@ffm.org with any questions about this opportunity. Additional volunteer opportunities with FRESHFARM can be found here: https://www.freshfarm.org/get-involved/volunteer

Mission Statement
FRESHFARM is a nonprofit that promotes sustainable agriculture and improves food access, education, and equity in the Mid-Atlantic region. We operate producer-only farmers markets that provide vital economic opportunities to local farmers and food producers, pioneering food distribution programs that increase food access for low-income neighborhoods, and innovative food education programs that build healthier communities.
Description
Our founders Bernadine Prince and Ann Harvey Yonkers launched FRESHFARM as a public education program of the American Farmland Trust in 1996. The next year, on July 4, 1997, they opened the Dupont Circle farmers market in Washington, DC with 15 farmers from four states selling fruits, vegetables, flowers, and plants.
In 2019 Hugo Mogollon joined FRESHFARM as executive director. As part of Hugo’s new leadership of the organization, FRESHFARM merged with Community Foodworks, a peer organization which Hugo had led for 5 years, to become the largest farmers market organization in the Mid-Atlantic. Through this merger, FRESHFARM’s capacity has expanded significantly, and we aim to increase access for our community to fresh, local foods, expand food education, and transform our regional food system.
