If you want to work with patients, this may be the volunteer position for you. Our Discharge Lounge Ambassador volunteer will assist staff with non-clinical duties and look after patients who are in the process of being discharged. The volunteer will:
- Welcome patients to the Discharge Lounge.
- Socialize, spending time listening to patients and chatting. Keep visits non-political and religion non-denominational.
- Assisting with making sure patients have access to water and snacks. Ensuring patients can open any packaging.
- While they wait for their transportation, offer magazines, coloring pages/colors, puzzles.
- Begin shift by touching base with the Discharge Lounge staff to check the flow of patients from the nursing unit to the discharge lounge that are due to be discharged that day.
- Provide information to patients where required.
- Keep the lounge tidy.
- Report any concerns to the Discharge Lounge staff
- Run errands for staff, collecting items from unit/departments..
The Discharge Lounge is open Monday - Friday and the volunteer shifts are:
11:00am - 3:00pm
3:00pm - 7:00pm

Our volunteers are a dedicated group of individuals who care about the health and welfare of people in their communities. They come in all ages & ability levels from high school students to senior citizens who want to give back. Some have contact with patients, while others work behind the scenes. Every day our volunteers touch the lives of patients, families and visitors. A friendly smile, a helpful hand and a warm heart can make a real difference in the experience people have when they are in the hospital or receiving care. Our dedicated volunteers work throughout the hospital. Their work is integral to the operation of many departments and their enthusiasm boosts the morale of the patients, visitors, and hospital staff.
