Join the Ted Rhodes Foundation Junior Board! The Ted Rhodes Foundation is seeking emerging dynamic and engaged professionals to serve on its Junior Board. As a Junior Board member, you will play a key role in supporting the Foundation’s mission to honor the legacy of golf pioneer Ted Rhodes by promoting youth involvement in golf, advancing diversity in the sport, and supporting educational initiatives. Ted is the 1st African American professional golfer in the modern era to play in the US Open (1948). Tiger Woods credits Ted for paving the way for him to play golf. There is a golf course that bears his name in Nashville, TN.

This is an exciting opportunity for individuals who are passionate about giving back through service, equity in sports, mentorship, fundraising, and the growth of the game of golf.

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic Support:

  • Provide insights and recommendations to the Executive Board on programming, outreach, and event strategy, including initiatives like the Trailblazer Classic and partnerships with youth golf organizations such as First Tee of Greater Chicago, First Tee of Tennessee, First Tee of Tulsa, and First Tee of North Florida.

2. Fundraising & Development:

  • Commit to an annual personal contribution and lead efforts to engage peers and networks in supporting the Foundation financially.
  • Actively participate in fundraising efforts, including securing sponsorships, building relationships with donors, and organizing fundraising events such as charity golf tournaments

3. Event Leadership & Volunteering:

  • Serve as an ambassador at key Foundation events, including golf tournaments, awards ceremonies, and community outreach programs

4. Advocacy & Networking:

  • Actively promote the Foundation’s mission and work within your network and across social platforms to increase visibility.
  • Build relationships with local community leaders, corporate sponsors, and educational institutions to foster collaboration and partnership opportunities.

5. Governance:

  • Attend quarterly board meetings and actively contribute to discussions on the Foundation's strategic goals, long-term growth, and financial health.
  • Participate in committee work as needed, including finance, events, and community outreach.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Passion for the mission of the Ted Rhodes Foundation, particularly in promoting diversity in golf and youth development.
  • Strong communication and networking skills, with the ability to build relationships with potential donors, sponsors, and community members.
  • Prior experience in event planning, fundraising, or nonprofit work is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to commit to a term of 1-2 years and dedicate approximately 5-10 hours per month to Associate Board activities.
  • Experience or interest in golf or youth sports is an advantage.
  • Undergraduate degree
  • Professional experience in fields such as marketing, finance, fundraising, event planning, or nonprofit management is preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage and inspire others.
  • Ability to commit time and resources to the Foundation’s events and fundraising efforts.

Time Commitment

  • Associate Board members are expected to attend quarterly meetings, contribute to fundraising events, and actively participate in at least one committee. An estimated time commitment of 5-10 hours per month is typical, though this may fluctuate with events and campaigns.

Our mission is to preserve and honor the legacy of golfing pioneer Theodore "Ted" Rhodes.

Description

Ted Rhodes’ vision was to make the game of golf open to all races. The Foundation is honoring his vision by creating pipelines of African Americans to work in the golf industry as golfers or professionals working in the golf industry by hosting educational events, golf clinics, and golf tournaments for youth and adults. Our youth program is Future Golfers of America " Growing the Champions of Tomorrow’. We provide financial support to Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) golf programs and golf team members to help further this mission. We also partner with local urban youth golf programs. Opening doors to the world of golf.
