Come experience the joy in a child's eyes as they pick out their warm, new coat for this winter season! As shopping guides, volunteers will walk with families through the coat drive and help them pick out the perfect new or gently used coat for their child. Your duties will be to collect the family's check in card with information, walk with a family through the shopping process which includes finding a coat and accessories, and guide the family to the check out area.
Volunteers for this role must be able to move and stand for extended periods of time. Volunteers under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult at all times during their volunteer shift. Snacks and drinks will be available for volunteers throughout the event, and a light lunch will be provided to individuals who sign up for two consecutive shifts.
Please note children must be ten years or older to participate in this shopping assistant volunteer role. If a child under the age of ten is interested in serving with this event, we would still love for them to join us. However, for their safety on this busy day, we ask that they serve behind the scenes as an event/restock assistant (please check out "Coats for Kids 2024 - Event/Restock Assistants" volunteer role for more information and sign up the child and adult volunteering with them there).
If you would like to sign up a group to volunteer and do not have a volunteer account, please create one and sign up at https://centralusa.salvationarmy.org/centralindiana/volunteer/ or contact kathy.dallacosta@usc.salvationarmy.org.

Mission Statement
The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.
Description
Using both paid staff and volunteers, we repond to disasters locally, nationally and internationally. Moreover, we repond to individual plights within Indiana whether the circumstances involve domestic violence, substance abuse, at risk children, homelessness, joblessness and other situations where people need help and training. We have multiple programs and service-specific centers in and around Indiana. We have special events as fundraisers, donation collections and to increase awareness. "Need knows no season" so we are in constant pursuit of finding ways to make a difference and offer the gift of God's love.
