About NEW ULMS OWN

Location:

212 N MINNESOTA, NEW ULM, MN 56073, US

Mission Statement

Our mission is to support marginalized women globally and locally. We do this through the sale of fair trade merchandise. Approximately 80% of fair trade products including coffee beans and cacao are grown or crafted by women allowing them to support their families, provide a stable income, opportunity for advancement, and good working conditions. Fair trade products come from the Global South where opportunities for women and markets for their products are limited. As a non-profit our shop is supported solely by volunteers. Profits from sales are shared with local charities that also support women and children such as NUMAS Haus- a shelter for women and children, Ivy House- a crisis nursery, CADA -which supports victims of domestic abuse, and other programs.

Description

New Ulm's Own opened in May of 2017. We have purchased over $80,000 of wholesale fair trade products. We have contributed nearly $7,000 to local non-profits to support their work for marginalized women and children. In our formative years we did community education about the value of fair trade through classroom, church, and community presentations. Globally it is a $1 Billion dollar industry that impacts 70 countries in an effort to achieve a fairer, more economically just marketing system. We are also supporting our downtown business community by providing an alternative shopping experience, Our goal is to expand sales to enable us to have a greater impact.
