Looking for a volunteer opportunity in a location filled to the brim with history and a lush green temperate rainforest? Consider this!

We are currently looking for park volunteers to assist with daily operations in the Lewis and Clark National Park Association’s bookstore. This position offers flexible work hours, days, and duties as detailed below.


Major Duties: All required duties for LCNPA Bookstore Retail Volunteer

A. Help keep the store stocked and tidy

1. Keep an adequate number of pieces displayed.

2. Check for accurate shelf signage with price.

3. Remove damaged/dirty products.

4. Count merchandise and apply price tags

5. Restock from basement, storeroom and store drawers.

6. Refill backstock items from basement to storeroom, store drawers and cash wrap area.

7. Dust shelves and wipe counters.

8. Keep stockroom and basement neatly organized and labelled.

B. Cashier Backup:

1. Be available to answer questions from visitors about products, the Park, and the general area.

2. Assist visitors with items in the display cases, finding shirt sizes, looking in the back, etc.

3. Help wrap and package purchases.

4. Be familiar with the Lewis & Clark story and recommend books for adults and children.

5. Operate the mobile cash register when the main register line gets too long.


Opportunities for Volunteer Work: Potential activities for those who are interested!

A. Computer Projects:

1. Enter the handwritten discount logs into a spreadsheet.

2. Enter used books of value greater than $20 into a spreadsheet.

3. Other projects as needed.


B. Research and learning:

1. Read and learn the books sold in the bookstore to better answer visitor questions.

2. Create signage or displays around books with knowledge from them.


Training for the position is offered on duty. A background check is required for key and safe access alongside cash handling. Shifts can range from 2-6 hours between 9 am to 5 pm any day of the week. Looking for volunteers who can assist during busy tour visitations.
