Position Overview

Mother Teresa Institute (MTI) is seeking a dedicated and skilled individual to provide on-site IT support, with a primary focus on maintaining and updating a digital archive hosted on a local website (i.e., created on WordPress). This role is crucial for ensuring the smooth operation of our institute’s web archive, which is an essential resource for all those who are interested in Mother Teresa’s life, writings and charism. While this position is primarily a volunteer commitment, a modest stipend is available to assist with expenses.

Required skills

  • Update and maintain a website (built on WordPress) with Book Gallery plugin: Experience with maintaining WordPress-based websites, familiarity with Book Gallery plugin to upload the digital contents to the web archive. The candidate should be enthusiastic about working on WordPress websites and proactive in managing and optimizing the platform. Previous experience with Book Gallery plugin, or openness to learn its usage is important.
  • File management: Efficiently upload, and organize files to MTI servers, with the ability to convert file formats as needed.
  • Web basics: Basic understanding for editing and troubleshooting simple web pages.
  • Microsoft Office suite expertise: Proficiency in MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

Nice-to-have skills

  • Operating system support: Knowledge of Windows including installation, configuration, and troubleshooting.
  • Software installation and configuration: Experience in installing, updating, and configuring software applications (e.g. WordPress), including antivirus programs and productivity tools.
  • Hardware troubleshooting: Ability to diagnose and repair hardware issues, including desktops, laptops, printers, and peripherals.
  • Remote desktop support: Proficiency with tools like Remote Desktop, TeamViewer, or AnyDesk for providing remote assistance.
  • Backup and recovery: Knowledge of backup solutions and recovery processes, including cloud-based backup services.
  • Database management: Basic knowledge of database systems like SQL Server or MySQL, including data queries and backup procedures.

The archive, currently located on an intranet, will eventually be moved entirely online.

The MTI provides resources to students, scholars and researchers who are interested in Mother Teresa, her life, charism and message, giving them the opportunity to study in depth one of the great saints of modern times and a humanitarian figure who made an enormous difference to the welfare of the poorest of the poor and had broad influence in the Church and the world.

Description

The Mother Teresa Institute (MTI) is an outgrowth of the work and activities of The Mother Teresa Center, a non-profit organization established and directed by the religious family founded by Mother Teresa of Calcutta, the Missionaries of Charity.

While the Center’s aim is to serve as a centralized and authoritative source of information on St. Teresa of Calcutta (better known throughout the world simply as Mother Teresa), to facilitate the spread of authentic devotion to her, and to safeguard her words and image from misuse or abuse, the Mother Teresa Institute (MTI) is directed towards a more profound study of Mother Teresa’s life, work, spirituality and message.

The MTI, located in Washington, DC, across from the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception.
