Spooky, scary, and spreading mulch! Join the Adopt A Stream Foundation at Al Borlin Park to help finish excavating our mulch pile! Hopefully we avoid scary splinters, and don't find any mulch mummies or monsters! All ghosts, ghouls, and goblins are welcome; costume-wearers get their choice of pitchfork and some Halloween candy. A Haunted Mulching at Woods Creek
Saturday October 26th,
9AM-Noon. Al Borlin Park in Monroe (Simons Road Entrance)
615 Simons Road,
Monroe, WA 98272 Volunteers will be helping the Stream Team move mulch from the drop site to the riparian zone beside the creek, volunteers will also help spread that mulch around the native plants and trees. This is a rain or shine event so please come prepared in tree planting attire and closed-toed, waterproof/resistant shoes to keep you dry and warm. We will likely have warm weather so please also make sure you are protected from the sun with a hat and/or sunscreen. Tools, gloves, and light refreshments will be provided by the Adopt A Stream Foundation. RSVP and direct questions to aasf@streamkeeper.org. More about this salmon stream restoration project: In the summer of 2023 AASF worked with our partners to remove an abandoned creosote-log railroad trestle that has been polluting Woods Creek and acting as a barrier to salmon migration since 1939. After the bridge removal, AASF installed in-stream log structures to create spawning and rearing habitat for native salmon (including the endangered Chinook). Next, in February of 2024, with the help of hardworking volunteers like you, our Stream Team planted native trees and shrubs in the riparian zone of Woods Creek. Now this Volunteer Mulch Party will help to enrich the soil at the site and provide a good base for those native trees and shrubs to continue to grow and thrive, so that in the future they will ensure the creek is properly shaded and can maintain proper water temperature to be able to sustain a healthy salmon run!
