About Us: We are developing a user-centric journaling app designed to help individuals extract thoughts from their journal entries to re-map and reframe using resonations feature. As we prioritize user privacy and data security, we seek a passionate and experienced Security Engineer to join our volunteer team.

Role Overview: As a Security Engineer, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the security of our journaling app. You will collaborate with our development team to identify and mitigate security risks, implement best practices, and safeguard user data. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute your expertise to a meaningful project while expanding your skills in a collaborative and supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Security Assessment: Conduct thorough security assessments of our app’s infrastructure, including code reviews, vulnerability scans, and penetration testing.
  • Data Protection: Implement robust encryption methods and secure data storage practices to protect sensitive user information.
  • Access Control: Design and enforce secure authentication and authorization protocols to ensure only authorized users can access the app.
  • Threat Mitigation: Identify potential security threats and develop strategies to mitigate risks, including the implementation of firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and security patches.
  • Compliance: Ensure the app meets relevant data privacy and security standards (e.g., GDPR, CCPA).
  • Incident Response: Develop and maintain an incident response plan to quickly address any security breaches or vulnerabilities.
  • Documentation: Create and maintain security documentation, including policies, procedures, and guidelines for the development team.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in cybersecurity, particularly in application security.
  • Familiarity with security standards and frameworks (e.g., OWASP, NIST).
  • Experience with encryption technologies, secure coding practices, and risk assessment.
  • Strong understanding of network security, authentication protocols, and data protection.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a remote team.
  • Passion for privacy and a commitment to safeguarding user data.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with mobile app security.
  • Familiarity with journaling or mental health apps.
  • Certifications such as CISSP, CEH, or similar.
