Agate Housing and Services serves people experiencing homelessness with the mission of ending homelessness and relieving hunger. We help people of all backgrounds, cultures, and languages that need to be connected to housing, shelter, and resources. However, there are some community members who only speak Spanish, and we only have a handful of bilingual staff who can translate vital resources from English into Spanish, which can help people find stability and even move on to housing. Help us be inclusive to our Spanish speaking neighbors by translating crucial resources!
The Translation Administrator can help the people we serve by translating resources for housing, shelter, employment, food shelves, meals, financial assistance, legal assistance, and more from English to Spanish. Times and services change at Agate, andspecial eventslike shoe giveaways, holiday meals, voter registration drives, and moremean flyers and signs to tell the public. They can translate those, so our Spanish speaking community knows, too!
Responsibilities:
Translate into Spanish:
Resources for housing, shelter, financial stability, food security, government assistance, and more
Signs for open hours and the list of services it provides (e.g., the Welcome Center, 8:30AM -3:00PM)
Flyers for special events like supply giveaways, meals, and drives (i.e., voting, vaccines, etc.)
Other public documents that come up in the future
Support andSupervision:
The Translation Administrator can translate documents for any staff member at Agate, so they may be connected to various employees at a time. However, someone they can always come back to as an official site contact and supervisor is Noah Chan, the Volunteer Manager. He might not be able to answer every question about every resource, but he will provide as much support and guidance as he can.

Impact
By becoming aTranslation Administrator, you are opening doors for folks who can only speak Spanish, in a country that predominately speaks English. Minnesota is known nationwide for its resources which help unstably housed, food secure, and underserved people. Agate, government agencies, and other nonprofits offer resources for getting a home, free meals, free groceries, rental assistance, financial assistance, case management, and vital documents like IDs and birth certificates. If they’re only in English, it’s a barrier for some and not open to all. With your help, we can remove the language barrier and unlock these resources forall people, including Spanish speaking families and individuals.
