Are you bilingual? You can use your language skills to assist with medical appointments in-person or via telehealth! To provide the best patient-centered care, AFC uses volunteer interpreters to assist with patient communication.

Arlington Free Clinic advances health equity by providing comprehensive, whole-person healthcare to our neighbors who would otherwise lack access. Volunteer Spanish Interpreters are needed to facilitate the communication between providers and patients. Encounters include intake, discharge, primary care, specialty care, physical therapy, diabetic education, exercise classes, and more!

What makes a successful volunteer?

Volunteer interpreters do not have to be professional interpreters, nor do they have to have experience in the medical field or existing strong familiarity with medical terminology. A successful AFC Volunteer Interpreter likes interacting with new people, enjoys fast paced working environments, has a flexible personality, and is culturally aware. AFC provides training for volunteer interpreters and all trainees shadow a medical session before working solo.

Mission Statement

Arlington Free Clinic advances health equity by providing comprehensive, whole-person healthcare to our neighbors who would otherwise lack access.

Description

At Arlington Free Clinic (AFC), we care for the whole person. Volunteer providers treat patients for every condition from chronic diabetes to cancer, while mental health counselors help them cope with the stresses of serious illness and poverty. New wellness programs and increased focus on preventive care help our patients live healthier lives. And, for the first time since the Clinic opened, visits to the dentist allow our patients to go out into the world with a confident smile.

Since 1994, Arlington Free Clinic has been committed to providing exemplary health care for Arlingtonians in need, serving about 1,600 patients each year. Access to health care makes such a critical difference in the lives of individuals and families - giving them peace of mind and economic security - and we continue to work every day toward a healthier Arlington.
