RESJ-MSM/PCI - Middle School After-school Program Tutor
ORGANIZATION: Immigrant and Refugee Community Organization (IRCO)
Please visit the new page to apply.
RESJ after-school groups provide culturally specific academic support and tutoring to immigrant and refugee students (African Immigrant/Refugee, Pacific Islander, Slavic/Eastern European, and Vietnamese). Volunteers support our culturally specific after-school programs by assisting our bilingual bicultural Academic Advocates in the classroom, at school events, and on occasional field trips. Through this program, students and families have a safe space within the school system, improved attendance rate and grades, student retention, and parents' involvement in their children's school and academic growth.
Volunteers help students with homework, math, science, and literacy lessons, as well as with group games and activities at the middle school level. Volunteers will provide tutoring in math and/or science subjects and assist with academic enrichment activities, such as career exploration field trips and workshops at the high school level. Volunteers should have a passion for working with immigrants and refugee students and helping them to achieve their goals. A good fit for this opportunity is someone with deep familiarity with middle school subjects such as math (e.g. algebra), English, or science subjects.
Experience tutoring middle or high school students is preferred but not required.
