About New York African Chorus Ensemble Inc.

Location:

1850 Amsterdam Avenue, New York, NY 10031, US

Mission Statement

NYACE contributes to the diversity of NYC's vibrant cultural life and employs the arts as a tool to create a bridge of understanding between people of diverse cultures. Much more than a singing group, we provide easy access to the learning, performance, and viewing of African traditional, popular, and art music. . NYACE serves the low income population by creating programs that provide easy access to the participation in and viewing of highly artistic performances. In addition, the organization provides opportunities for relatively unknown performing groups to take part in our programs and, thus, widen their audience base.

Description

New York African Chorus Ensemble Inc is a multiracial, and multicultural organization that contributes to the improvement of the quality of life of the elderly, mentally, physically and economically challenged, youth, adult and the poor.

Incorporated in 2004, NYACE has a reputation for presenting and organizing culturally enriching and highly artistic programs in NYC for free especially for culturally and economically underserved communities in Harlem.

Our programs include annual concerts aimed at demystifying Africa and connecting the community with music by African composers, a year-long workshop on African music that empower a multiracial group of low income, aspiring musicians with superior performance skills while they develop greater self-confidence, disciple and understanding for others, an annual festival that builds community and celebrates the diverse cultural communities in NYC; and a conference on African music and dance.

NYACE creates opportunities for an international sharing and exchange of ideas. In addition, the organization provides opportunities for relatively unknown performing groups to take part in our programs and, thus, widen their audience base

NYACE is the recipient of the 2011 "World Harmony Award" from the NY Metropolitan Martin Luther King Jr., Center for Nonviolence and the 2012 "Blue Heart Award" from Berlin, & a Congressional Proclamation from Congressman Rangel.
