Mission Statement

We seek to unite the South Salt Lake community through art. Every year, we support local artists by seeking out and creating opportunities for them to showcase their craft. In doing so, we open the door to everyone else in South Salt Lake through events, public art, and art programming. From murals on our local businesses to art classes, we provide easy access to amazing artists and their art, improving the quality of life and creating a sense of pride within our city.

Description

The South Salt Lake Arts Council was initiated to help support the creative arts in our community. We found we had many artists and art businesses in our city with no structure to amplify the incredible work being created in our small city. The first objective was to create a sense of place for those creative industries to thrive. The downtown area where many of these businesses were located was identified as the Creative Industries Zone. After identifying what and where this art was predominantly being created, the work of crafting programs and events to support the arts in that area and our city began. We have two signature events, Mural fest, which has enabled us to curate the largest mural collection with international talent in a walkable area in the state of Utah. Craftoberfest each fall provides an opportunity to showcase local craft brewers and distillers , musicians, art vendors, and artists. The event is free for all. We also strive to celebrate the rich culture in our diverse city by providing grants and other opportunities for groups to share their culture with the community. We offer low cost and free of charge arts classes so that all can participate. We are looking ot the future to expand our programming and events to include the Historic Scott School campus.
