ORGANIZATION: SHROOMATE

This is currently a virtual position but will require the member to be within driving distance of our location in Norristown.

Position Overview:
Shroomate is seeking an experienced and dedicated Treasurer to join our Board of Directors. As a key member of the leadership team, you will play a major role in overseeing Shroomate’s financial health and sustainability. The Treasurer is responsible for managing the organization's finances, ensuring compliance with nonprofit financial regulations, and providing strategic financial guidance. This position is critical to the success of Shroomate's mission-driven initiatives, particularly as we expand our research, development, and grant-funded projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a Board Member, attending all board meetings and participating in high-level decision-making
  • Oversee the financial health of the organization, including budgeting, financial reporting, and accounting processes
  • Prepare and present financial reports to the board, providing insights on financial performance and projections
  • Manage cash flow, banking relationships, and monitor investments and reserves
  • Ensure compliance with nonprofit financial regulations, tax filings, and legal requirements
  • Work closely with the grant writer and fundraising team to manage grant funds and track financial contributions
  • Assist in developing and implementing long-term financial strategies to support Shroomate’s sustainability
  • Maintain accurate records of all financial transactions, and work with external auditors as needed
  • Provide guidance on financial risk management and help steer the organization’s future growth

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in financial management, accounting, or related roles (experience in nonprofit finance is highly desirable)
  • Strong understanding of nonprofit accounting practices, financial reporting, and compliance
  • Proficiency with financial management software (e.g., QuickBooks, Excel, or similar)
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to communicate financial concepts clearly to board members with varying levels of financial knowledge
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to transparency and accountability
  • Experience working with grant-funded projects is a plus
  • Passion for environmental sustainability, research, or nonprofit work is highly desirable
