The Community Kitchen opportunity involves preparing and serving lunch to approximately 300 people experiencing homelessness and cleaning up the dining room after the lunch service.

Hourly Schedule:(Dine In Service w/ 11+ volunteers, Sack Lunches w/ 10 or less)
- 8:45am-9:00am - Kitchen Orientation (first time only)
- 9:00am-11:00am - Food Preparation
- 11:00am-12:30pm - Serve Meals
- 12:30pm-1:30pm - Cleanup Dining and Kitchen Area
Parking: There are metered spots and a pay lot directly in front of Caritas. See https://www.austintexas.gov/paidparking for more details.
Dress Code: Jeans or long pants, t-shirts, and closed-toed shoes. Hat or Hair Net: All individuals must wear a hat or hair net. Long hair must be secured away from face, tied up with a rubber band. Apron and hairnet will be provided. Please bring a hat if you would prefer not to wear a hair net. Unacceptable Attire: Sandals, flip-flops, short, or tank stops are not allowed. Volunteers who come dressed unsuitably will be required to change clothes before being allowed to volunteer in the Community Kitchen.
IF YOU SIGN UP TO A VOLUNTEER SESSION AND CAN NO LONGER MAKE IT, PLEASE REMOVE YOURSELF FROM THE SESSION SO THAT SOMEONE ELSE CAN VOLUNTEER AND WE HAVE AN ACCURATE COUNT OF VOLUNTEERS COMING IN TO HELP.
Volunteers between the age of 13-17 years need to be accompanied by an adult volunteer also scheduled for the same day. Caritas Clients are prohibited from volunteering with Caritas of Austin. Former clients had to have exited services from any Caritas of Austin program for a year before eligibility to volunteer with Caritas of Austin.

Adult volunteers coming with Age Minor Volunteers, please review the information thoroughly so that they are knowledgeable of the volunteer experience they will partake in.
When reserving your volunteer date you will be prompted to fill out a form and accept the Accident and Liability Waiver. If you have a minor volunteer please add their name in the prompted form.
COVID-19: Masks are optional for those who are vaccinated. Unvaccinated volunteers must wear a mask.
