We need animal lovers like you to help us in our mission to safeguard, rescue, heal, adopt and advocate for animals while inspiring community action and compassion. At BARCS, volunteers are more than just a tremendous help to our mission--they are our lifeline and our family. Our volunteers help us care for the animals and operate our programs in a variety of different areas.

Volunteers are the heart of BARCS. They help in countless ways - by walking dogs, socializing cats, providing enriching experience for animals, helping clean, assisting with adoptions, and so much more! We are seeking leaders who enjoy spending time with people as much as they love furry companions - volunteers who want to help lead volunteer orientations or train new volunteers on handling dogs and socializing cats.

Volunteers interested in this opportunity will need to volunteer at least twelve hours in the shelter in the area in which they plan to train others in to ensure they feel fully comfortable answering questions about the shelter. This opportunity is great for student leaders or early career age folks who want to practice their leadership skills, or even for retirees with a wealth of experience who are confident speaking in small groups.

About Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter (BARCS)

Location:

2490 Giles Road, Baltimore, MD 21225, US

Mission Statement

The Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter, Inc. (BARCS) is a nonprofit shelter that accepts and cares for all animals in need and promotes responsible pet ownership for a more humane community in Baltimore City. We are an open admission shelter that grants refuge to more than 10,000 animals a year regardless of age, health or history of abuse and neglect.

Description

BARCS is a non-profit, 501(c)3 organization operating Maryland’s largest animal shelter and pet adoption center. We are an open admission shelter, granting refuge to every abandoned, neglected, abused, lost or surrendered animal that comes through our door. A staggering 30 or more animals are surrendered to BARCS every day. No matter what the circumstance, we do not turn away any animal in need of shelter, food, medical care and a loving touch. Yearly, this equates to more than 10,000 dogs, cats, kittens, puppies, and even wildlife and exotic animals that need care and placement.

Each year, BARCS is growing, evolving and working to implement new innovative programs that benefit animals in need and the neighborhoods that support them.
