The Party in the Park is an annual fundraiser hosted by The San Diego Automotive Museum that raises money for their IGNITE Technical Academy. The academy teaches students skills in the auto industry along with apprenticeships, fiscal responsibility, and resume building all at no cost to the student.
Volunteers are needed to help with set up, checking in/out guests, auction support, greeters, and assisting the valet (no car driving).
Opportunity Requirements & Important Notes
Attire: Set up is casual attire. The event is business casual attire. This opportunity takes place both indoors and outdoors
Bring: Bring a hat if working the set up shift.
Physical Requirements: Must be able to follow directions, be friendly, able to work in a fast-paced environment, and comfortable with a tablet if working check in. This project is able to make accommodations for individuals with physical limitations for the roles of check in and greeter. The space where this project takes place is wheelchair accessible.
Waiver: Minors will be required to have a San Diego Automotive Museum waiver signed by their parent/guardian.
Weather: The event takes place rain or shine.
Photos: Volunteers are not permitted to take photos at this event.
Note: It is mandatory that volunteers attend one of the volunteer orientations. The orientations take place Sept. 7 at 10:30am, Sept. 12 at 5:00pm, or Sept. 21 at 10:30am.
When not working, volunteers are welcome to watch the band SULLVN when they take the stage around 9:00pm. All volunteers who complete their shift will receive a free family level membership to the Museum. In addition, they be entered to win one of three prizes. Meals will be provided for volunteers. The original idea of creating an automotive museum in Balboa Park came from Briggs Cunningham, a renowned automobile collector and racer. The idea circulated for many years until an inspired group of local automotive enthusiasts propelled the idea forward. In 1979, the San Diego City Council first considered the issue and in 1980 they gave unanimous approval to the museum and granted a long term lease for one of the historic buildings in the jewel of San Diego: Balboa Park.
After spending approximately $1 million renovating and upgrading the building, the San Diego Automotive Museum opened in December of 1988 as San Diego’s Premier Transportation Museum. Since then, millions of local auto enthusiasts and tourists from all over the world have visited our world-class collection. Today the museum stands as a living tribute to the automobile and what it has meant to our culture.
