Image_202409180946

Elmhurst Hospital Auxiliary is looking for generous volunteers to donate their time as members of our Board of Directors. We are looking for enthusiastic community members to support a strategic transformation to grow and diversify our membership, build awareness of the work of the Auxiliary and NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst, and deepen our ability to fundraise for our annual initiatives. We are looking for community leaders who can share their expertise in a range of areas to solidify the Auxiliary’s mission and programs for the long-term.

We are seeking new board directors with skills in one or more of the following areas:

  • Experience with non-profit governance
  • Familiarity with or interest in the work of hospitals and health care institutions
  • Connections to the Queens and/or New York City business community
  • Comfort with budgets and financial planning
  • Legal expertise
  • Broad personal, professional and social networks
  • Marketing, communications, and graphic design acumen
  • Access to or familiarity with foundation or corporate grantmaking
  • Willingness to fundraise for and promote the work of the Auxiliary
  • Capacity to make a personally meaningful gift

Committment

Directors of the Board are elected to two-year terms and charged with the financial and governance oversight of the activities of the Auxiliary. We are looking for enthusiastic individuals to share their expertise to grow the Auxiliary’s reach to expand both our fundraising and grantmaking. Directors are responsible for fundraising for the organization, through sharing our messages and encouraging support from their networks, or making personal donations. The full Board of Directors formally convenes-either in person or via teleconference-6 to 8 times a year. Directors are asked to join at least one, or up to two committees to focus on specific areas of our work, which meet at additional times throughout the year.

Process

Interested candidates are asked to share a brief paragraph about themselves, their interest in the Auxiliary, and what skills they bring to board service. Please include a resume or linkedin profile. Each candidate’s qualifications will be reviewed by the board and senior staff of Elmhurst Hospital. The board will invite select candidates for a brief interview process with one or more current Director(s) and Auxiliary support staff. This is an opportunity for the candidate and the Auxiliary to learn more about each other. Finally, candidates will be voted on by the full board at an upcoming meeting.

A note about conflicts of interest:
In the past year, Auxiliary candidates cannot have been an employee of Health + Hospitals or a Health + Hospitals vendor, or have a close relative employed by Health + Hospitals or a Health + Hospitals vendor.
