About INSPIRED TO LEARN

Mission Statement

Inspired to Learn, a student-run non-profit organization, supports individuals with Down syndrome by providing free online tutoring, social engagement and mentoring. We set expectations high and engage with genuine enthusiasm.

Description

Inspired to Learn was founded in 2022 by Beckett and Phoebe Song to help individuals with Down syndrome, like their older brother Elliott. Elliott is 18 and thriving in life, in part because of the support of wonderful teachers, peers, tutors and role models. Volunteers are paired with a child with Down syndrome and meet weekly at a mutually convenient time. The family of the child specifies whether the child should work on academic skills, conversation skills or some combination of both. Some children just want an online mentor to practice social skills.

Inspired to Learn is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt charitable organization (EIN: 93-3812930). Thanks to the overwhelming interest of volunteers from local high schools and colleges, we now provide online mentoring and tutoring across the United States. In addition to providing online mentoring and tutoring, we have been hosting educational workshops, art classes and other activities in the California Bay area.

The organization is proud to announce that it is a Certifying Organization for the President’s Volunteer Service Award. Volunteers now have the privilege of earning this award by volunteering at Inspired to Learn. Eligibility and awards tiers are described on the PVSA website.
