Are you passionate about sustainability and skilled at organizing impactful events?
Waste Free Society, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is seeking a dedicated Volunteer Events Coordinator to help plan and execute events that raise awareness about waste reduction and sustainable living. In this role, you’ll be key to ensuring our events run smoothly, whether in-person or virtual, and inspire action within our community.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan and coordinate both virtual and in-person events (workshops, community cleanups, educational programs, etc.)
  • Collaborate with the Marketing Director to promote events through social media and email marketing
  • Manage event logistics including scheduling, vendor coordination, and volunteer management
  • Ensure events align with our mission and create a positive impact on the community
  • Track and analyze the success of events to improve future initiatives
  • Serve as the point of contact for event attendees, volunteers, and partners

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience planning events (either professional or volunteer) is a plus
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and work under tight deadlines
  • Interest in environmental sustainability and waste reduction
  • Comfortable working independently and as part of a team
  • Familiarity with virtual event platforms and tools like Google Meet, Zoom etc., is a bonus

No formal degree required. Prior event planning experience is a plus but not necessary-we’re looking for enthusiasm and a passion for making a difference!

Commitment:

  • 5-10 hours per week, possibility of more closer to event dates
  • Flexible schedule
  • Most work can be done remotely but on-site attendance will be needed the day of events

Description

Waste Free Society’s goal is to ensure equitable access to eco-friendly practices like composting and organic food, while backing regenerative farming and fueling the growth of our local economy. We are working to implement a Waste Free Certification program that will aid local businesses to divert food waste to local composting and vermicomposting farms. We also host Second Saturday Community Markets where we do pop-up appearances of our Waste Free Boutique, a one-for-one exchange of clothing items that aids in diverting clothing waste.
