Kitchen of Life is an educational program that teaches students interpersonal skills through a hands-on culinary experience. This experience fosters a sense of belonging, resilience, and connection among participants. This is made possible through the help of our volunteers who assist and empower students while working through that day’s recipe and activities.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Kitchen of Life is to provide experiences embedded with the foundations for resilience and positive youth development for students through collaborative culinary experiences.

Description

Kitchen of Life is a model of positive youth development based on the universal principal that to be emotionally well, all youth need a sense of belonging, generosity, independence, and mastery. The mission of the Kitchen of Life is to provide the foundation for these skills using collaborative culinary experiences. These principals come alive by creating a resilience- focused educational approach through the team work which occurs in the Kitchen of Life. Students come in four separate times for two hours each and engage in learning new curriculum and then practice that days lesson through creating meals as a team.
