If you think you may be interested in volunteering with us to support local children and youth, our next volunteer training class begins Oct 7th and continues once a week for the following 4 weeks (on Oct 17, 21, 28, & Nov 4). The training equips volunteers with the skills to become either a Court Appointed Special Advocate, an Abrigo Advocate, or both if you so choose. With both programs, you will be paired with an infant, child or youth/young adult who is either in the foster care system, or is experiencing challenges and would benefit from one-on-one support and mentorship. Now more than ever, children in our community need caring, dedicated advocates to ensure that they are safe and connected. It is because of our amazing volunteers that we are able to continue working to keep our infants, children, and youth safe and secure. Children in your community need your help.

To sign up by the Sept 19th deadline, click here or contact our Program Coordinator at michele@casafirst.org or 505-820-1500.

About CASA, First Judicial District

Location:

466 W. San Francisco Street, Santa Fe, NM 87501, US

Mission Statement

CASA recruits, trains, supports and supervises community volunteers who advocate, both in and out of the courtroom, for abused / neglected children from Santa Fe, Rio Arriba, and Los Alamos counties.

Description

When an abuse/neglect case comes into the Court system, CASA volunteers get to know the child and gather information from everyone involved in the child’s life, including family members, teachers, doctors, lawyers, and social workers.

They use the information they gather to report to the court and to advocate for the child’s needs in the foster care system. CASA volunteers commit to represent and advocate for a child’s best interests until the child finds a safe, permanent home.
