**Scholar Scout Volunteer**

**Role Overview:**
The Scholar Scout Volunteer will assist in identifying and connecting with foster youth who are aging out of the foster care system and planning to attend college, specifically Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). This role focuses on building relationships with foster care agencies, high schools, and social workers to identify eligible students who would benefit from the "Roots to Wings" initiative.

**Key Responsibilities:**
- Collaborate with local foster care agencies, high schools, and social workers to identify foster youth who are planning to attend college.
- Maintain and update a database of potential program participants.
- Conduct outreach to foster youth, informing them about the "Roots to Wings" initiative and how it can support their transition to college.
- Assist in verifying eligibility and collecting necessary documentation from students who wish to participate in the program.
- Work with the program staff to ensure all identified students are supported throughout their transition process.

**Time Commitment:**
6-8 hours per week, depending on outreach needs and the number of students identified.

**Skills/Qualifications:**
- Strong communication and networking skills.
- Experience working with foster care organizations, high schools, or youth services is a plus.
- Compassion and understanding of the challenges faced by foster youth.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to maintain accurate records.

**Expectations:**
- Volunteers are expected to be proactive in building relationships and identifying eligible students.
- Timely communication with foster care agencies and students is essential to ensure smooth transitions into the program.
