MADD Court Monitoring Program trains and enlists court montiors to observe and document what happens in the courtroom during DUI proceedings. Court Monitors track results and indentify inconsistencies on how DWI cases are handled and resolved.

The goals of MADD's Court monitoring program are to enhance transparency and accountablitiy within the criminal justice system. The program works to promot public interest and awareness of the outcomes of DWI criminal cases. We strive to raise awareness concerning impaired driving cases. As a court monitor you will compile relevant statistics on impaired driving arrests and dispostions. The Court Monitor Program works to help reduce recidivism and to improve driving impaired enforcement as we work along side and support our Law Enforcement officials and court staff.

Mission Statement

The mission of Mothers Against Drunk Driving is to end drunk driving, help fight drugged driving, support the victims of these violent crimes and prevent underage drinking.

Description

Our goal at Mothers Against Driving is to end all cases of drinking and driving. MADD began with a mother turning her grief into action. This movement has empowered generations of supporters and shown that we can and will make lasting change, but we're not done yet. MADD will do whatever it takes to make drunk driving a thing of the past. We are seeking volunteers to participate in our court monitoring program for Illinois specifically. This program was created to ensure that impaired driving offenders are being prosecuted and justice is achieved. Our court monitoring program is a tool proven to affect the adjudication process and is recognized by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) as an effective countermeasure to reduce impaired driving. The duties of a court monitor include tracking misdemeanor and/or felony impaired driving cases by being physically present in the courtroom or virtually, acquire case information from courtroom observation and, when necessary, from researching online databases. This data is then entered into the MADD National Court Monitoring Database for reporting purposes. Our MADD staff and volunteers monitored 6,533 case is 2021 in Illinois over the span of 30 different counties, and roughly 33,000 cases nationally which is represented by 12 states and roughly 130 U.S. counties.
