Homeless Persons’ Memorial Day (HPMD) is a national day of commemoration for anyone who passed away while experiencing homelessness. Care For the Homeless and Urban Pathways are holding their Memorial on Wednesday, December 18th 2024 at Congregation Rodeph Sholom, 7 West 83rd St., NY NY. The Memorial includes reading the names of those who have passed this year while unstably housed in NYC with a candle lit in their honor and a bell tolled in remembrance. It is a program that provides an opportunity to remember those we lost and advocate for better policies to end homelessness as we know it. It is free and open to the public.
We would like to recruit volunteer musicians and singers to participate in the observance. We ask for a commitment for the length of the program, which is from 5:00 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. The hope is to have moving music/song that is non-denominational to honor all those in attendance.
The acoustics of the space are great, but we will need you to bring an amp or other sound amplification if you intend to use it.
We are expecting from the musicians:
- To play memorial appropriate music as people are entering between about 5-5:30 p.m.
- A welcome song at 5:30 pm
- A song in the middle of the program;
- And a closing song
If you are interested and have a sample of your performances or music that you could share we would be very appreciative.
We will provide you with more details as we get closer to the event. We look forward to working with you!

About Care For the Homeless

Mission Statement
Care For the Homeless fights homelessness by delivering high-quality and client-centered health care, human services and shelter to homeless individuals and families, and by advocating for policies to ameliorate, prevent and end homelessness.
Description
Care For the Homeless (CFH) has met the medical, mental, and behavioral health care needs of people experiencing homelessness in New York City since 1985
We currently operate 25 health care delivery sites throughout Brooklyn, the Bronx, Manhattan, Queens, and Staten Island. We have plans to open more in the near future.
The majority of our service sites are co-located at facilities operated by other non-profits. These sites include shelters for single adults and families as well as assessment centers and soup kitchens. In addition, our community-based health center model brings services directly to neighborhoods where the need is most significant. Both models reduce the barriers that homeless New Yorkers regularly face in an increasingly complex health care system as well as increase access to high quality health care. Regardless of an individual’s ability to pay, all services are always provided.
