826 Boston is a nonprofit writing, tutoring, and publishing organization where students in grades K-12 and beyond can share their stories, amplify their voices, and develop as leaders in school and in life. We invite you to join our community of more than 750 writing coaches, tutors, mentors, storytellers, editors, illustrators, and more!
This fall we are thrilled to be bringing our College Essay Boot Camp workshop to students around Boston. Each tutoring shift includes:
- 15-minute volunteer pre-brief to discuss the day’s topic
- 15-20 minute mini-lesson led by a member of the 826 Boston team
- 70-75 minute work block where volunteers will work with one or two students
- 15-minute debrief to discuss successes, challenges, and learnings from the day

Description
Our services are structured around the understanding that great leaps in learning can happen with one-on-one attention and that strong writing skills are fundamental to future success. With this understanding in mind, we provide drop-in tutoring, field trips, after-school workshops, in-schools tutoring, help for English language learners, and assistance with student publications.
All of our free programs seek to strengthen each student's power to express ideas effectively, creatively, confidently, and in his or her individual voice.
