Book Club of California

The Book Club of California is a nonprofit member and donor supported organization that is dedicated to preserving and promoting the history of the book and the book arts with an emphasis on the history and literature of California and the West. Our membership is made up of a community united by a love of fine books and includes printers, binders, typographers, historians, librarians, collectors, readers, scholars, and people who simply love books. The Book Club seeks a volunteer to support the club’s in-person programs and events. Volunteers will greet guest, help with member and guest check-in, answer questions, and do light set-up or break-down tasks. Volunteers are able to attend book-related lectures, talks and presentations while volunteering. This is a great opportunity for someone who is interested in event coordination, nonprofit work, and/or book-related topics. No experience required as we will train you. RESPONSIBILITIES Volunteers must be available for Monday evening shifts-4:30pm - 7 pm when a program is scheduled. (End time is flexible based on volunteer's schedule.) This can be a one-off, occasional, or ongoing assignment. - Greet guest and assist with checking in members and guests - Direct guests and answer general questions, if needed - Assist with light set-up or break-down tasks, if needed The following dates are needed: Monday, September 16th, 4:30 - 7pm Monday, September 23rd, 4:30 - 7pm Monday, September 30th, 4:30 - 7pm HOW TO APPLY Please send us a short introduction about yourself and availability to yerrie@bccbooks.org. Mission Statement

The Book Club of California supports the art of fine printing related to the history and literature of California and the western states of America. The Book Club honors its mission through the continual research of these topics, and the activities of publishing, programming, and exhibitions. The Albert Sperisen Library further preserves and promotes the art of fine printing with its holdings of reference, fine press, and rare materials.

The Book Club of California is a non-profit, membership-supported organization founded in 1912. The club supports the art of fine printing related to the history and literature of California and the western states of America through a dynamic series of publications, public programs, and exhibitions.

WHO WE ARE

Our membership is made up of a diverse and vital community united by a love of fine books and the marriage of content and craft. BCC members include printers, binders, typographers, historians, librarians, curators, collectors, readers, scholars, and people who simply love books. They hail from all over the world, representing 38 states and 8 countries.

WHAT WE DO

We print limited edition and letterpress publications collected by individuals, libraries, and institutions around the world, and host dynamic programs and exhibitions that offer insight into publishing, printing, literature, and the history of California and the West. Our special collections library is full of noteworthy fine press books and ephemera from the region, as well as reference materials on printing history and book arts.
