ORGANIZATION: Volunteers of America Northern Colorado Services

Cooking Matters is a program that provides cooking classes to our clients with a focus on teaching how to make healthy, tasty, and inexpensive meals. For the class we need both class assistants and culinary instructors. A description of both roles is below:

Class Assistant: Help set up the class (including washing produce, sanitizing tables, and helping people sign waivers), assisting during the class (including distributing ingredients to the participants, helping keep the tables clean and interacting with the participants), and finally, helping clean up after the class (including washing dishes, helping pack up and cleaning tables).

Chef or Culinary Instructor: Help teach the culinary aspect of each class to participants. This is our hardest role to fill so please don’t let the title scare you away! If you enjoy cooking and would like to share your skills and knowledge with others, we’d love to see you at a class. Our in-house Outreach Coordinator and Nutrition Educator will be at each class to work alongside you and will provide you all the information you’d need prior to class to ensure you feel confident in this role.

Poudre High School Mobile No-Cost Market Needs:

We offer a Mobile No-Cost Market that is held at Poudre High School (PHS) in Fort Collins every other Thursday. We are currently looking for a PHS Mobile Driver and PHS Mobile Packing volunteer. A description of both roles is below:

PHS Mobile Driver: After loading up one of our Food Bank trucks at 3pm, this volunteer will drive from our Main Warehouse in Loveland to the mobile no-cost market at Poudre High School in Fort Collings to drop off the food. Once the mobile is over, any remaining food will be packed up into the truck and driven back to the Main Warehouse in Loveland with the role ending by 8pm. This role requires using an electric pallet jack (training will be provided) and lifting as much as 70lbs at a time. This role also requires a drug screen and MVR Check.

PHS Mobile Packing Volunteer: In preparation for each mobile, we need a volunteer every other Thursday from 1-4pm to prepare pallets of food for the no-cost market. This will look like pulling bulk food from the warehouse racks and placing them on pallets. As such, this role requires lifting as much as 70lbs at a time, working in a warehouse environment and having the ability to bend, lift, and stand for up to 2 hours.
