WHO WE ARE

The mission of Hamlin Robinson School (HRS) is to ignite the academic and creative potential of students with dyslexia and other language-based learning differences. Since its founding in 1983, HRS stands as the only school in the state of Washington exclusively serving the unique academic and social/emotional needs of students with dyslexia. It is our vision for students who struggle in traditional settings to experience the classroom as a welcoming and safe place for learning.

Mission Statement

Hamlin Robinson School is an independent, non-profit, accredited, state-approved, elementary and middle day school. We are dedicated to providing a positive learning environment that will meet individual needs and nurture the whole child. Specially trained teachers teach small classes using a multisensory classroom approach in reading, writing, spelling and all instructional areas. The schoolâ s goal is to help students discover the joy of learning, build positive self-esteem and explore their full creative potential while preparing them to return successfully to conventional classrooms.

Description

Hamlin Robinson School seeks to admit students in grades one through eight with academic potential who have been identified with Dyslexia or related language difficulties (problems with acquisition of reading and/or written language), whose learning disability has prevented them from experiencing success in traditional programs. Students are served in conventional classroom groupings. Children are placed by chronological age as often as possible, but an attempt is made to operate as an ungraded school. The educational focus is on language arts and mathematics so that children may be prepared to return to conventional classrooms as soon as possible. The average length of stay at HRS is three years
