Position Overview
We are seeking a passionate and skilled Online Fine Art Teacher who will be responsible for delivering art education to autistic children and adults. This role requires a deep understanding of autism, a love for creative expression, and the ability to adapt teaching methods to meet the unique needs of our students. As a voluntary position, this role offers a meaningful opportunity to make a significant impact on the lives of autistic individuals, helping them to express themselves and build confidence through
art. This position also offers the chance to contribute to the strategic direction of the art programme.
Key Responsibilities
- Art Instruction: Design and deliver engaging, accessible, and inclusive fine art lessons tailored to the needs of autistic students.
- Curriculum Development: Develop and adapt art curriculum and materials to support various learning styles and abilities.
- Student Engagement: Foster a positive and supportive online learning environment that encourages creativity and self-expression.
- Individual Support: Provide personalized guidance to students, helping them to develop their artistic skills and confidence.
- Collaboration: Work closely with other Board Members and staff to integrate art programs into the broader mission of the organization.
- Progress Tracking: Assess and document the progress of students, providing feedback and adjusting teaching methods as needed.
- Community Building (limited location onsite): Support efforts to connect students with the broader community through art exhibitions, online showcases, and other events.
Qualifications
- Experience in Art Education: Prior experience teaching fine art, particularly to individuals with autism or special educational needs is a bounce
- Understanding of Autism: Knowledge of autism spectrum disorders and experience working with autistic individuals is highly preferred but training can be provided
- Creativity: Ability to develop and deliver creative art programs that are accessible and engaging for students with diverse needs.
- Patience and Empathy: Strong interpersonal skills, with a focus on patience, empathy, and understanding of individual student needs.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in using online teaching platforms and digital tools for creating and delivering art lessons.
- Collaborative Spirit: Willingness to work as part of a team, contributing to the strategic direction and governance of the organization.
- Commitment: A strong commitment to the mission and values of Autistic Community Canvas.
