Search and Care is an over 50 year old Upper East Side nonprofit that works to help older adults remain safely and comfortably independent, would love to have you as part of our Technology Coaching Team!

Our agency’s "Silver Circles" computer education program provides one-on-one and group sessions to help older adults use technology on varying devices.

Location-wise, our client's are located in Manhattan, and their homes can range from East 72nd St. - E 138th Street on the east side, and West 60th St. to W112th street on the west side so we are looking for volunteers who are comfortable with traveling.

We're seeking bilingual technology coaches who can help in-person with one or more of the following:

One-On-One Computer Coaching: Helping older adults through one-on-one in-person sessions with learning how to use their devices - computers, tablets, smartphones, etc. - in whatever ways fit each client's needs and interests.

Technology Workshops: Assisting in either presenting or assisting participants on how to use their tech devices (phone, computer, tablet, etc.) during a workshop.

Client Outreach:

What we are looking for in a volunteer:

* Bilingual English/Spanish-speaking - Any additional languages is a huge plus!
* Interest and care in working with older adults AND technology
* Ability to provide technology help to older adults in a way that is easy to understand
* Ability to set appropriate boundaries if/when necessary
* Patience, reliability, and a positive attitude!

In your email, please write a paragraph (e.g. 4-5 sentences) expressing why you are interested in this volunteer position. Along with any dates you are available to conduct a volunteer interview.

Please note: We are flexible with whatever time you will be available to coach. We are even open to weekend coaching upon request!

Search and Care is a not for profit social service agency that has helped over 10,000 older New York residents in the Upper East Side, East Harlem, and Upper West Side ranging from the ages 60-103.

Our experienced social workers, volunteers, and retired financial professionals make effective plans geared to each individual to maintain and hopefully improve their quality of life in our goal to help them remain in the community in their own homes as long as possible. Volunteers help us out tremendously in this regard!

We never charge a fee for our services.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Background Check
  • Must be at least 18
  • There is no minimum time commitment and we let both you and the client decide what is an appropriate day/time to have a session if doing a 1-on-1 coaching session. We also try to have weekend technology help events throughout the week.
