Aid in the support of drop-in or presenter-led programming at multiple branches throughout Multnomah County. All equipment, software, and supplies are provided by the library and will be sent to the location in advance. There are also opportunities for volunteers to present programs on various topics.

Time commitment: 3 hours per shift, 2-4 times per month, dates and frequency of events will vary. Events tend to be in the afternoons or evenings, occasionally on the weekends.

Age requirement: 16+

Available shift(s): varies, training/programs start in October and are ongoing after that

Tasks and responsibilities

  • Supporting audio and video specific presenter led programs by setting up AV equipment before events and putting everything away after the event
  • Troubleshooting software and hardware issues during the program
  • Provide a welcoming environment for patrons
  • 1:1 patron support as needed
  • Administering patron surveys and collecting participation data
  • Research creative curriculum and projects, as needed for drop-in programs

Skills and qualifications

  • Experience with audio visual software: logic pro, ableton live, davinci resolve, adobe premiere rush
  • Experience with or interest in learning audio hardware like midi controllers, preamps, speakers, guitars, bass and drum machines
  • Experience with or interest in learning video cameras, lighting equipment, microphones
  • Comfort working with youth and adults
  • Ability to lift up to 20 lbs, stoop and bend throughout the event
  • Ability to stand for up to 3 hours, but seating is available if needed
  • Ability to pass a criminal record check if 18 years or older. Results of the records check will be reviewed on an individualized basis. A conviction is not an automatic bar to volunteering.
