Retired Nurses, serve people at end of life as a compassionate companion
ORGANIZATION: HILDEGARD HOUSE
Please visit the new page to apply.
Hildegard House is Kentucky's first and only comfort care home. Through the support of our community and with the help of many volunteers, we provide a home and compassionate care for individuals at the end of life who have no home or loved ones to care for them so that they may die with dignity.
"Caring for people who are dying can be an intense, intimate and deeply enlivening experience."
Frank Ostaseski
Volunteers are the heart of Hildegard House. A special group of volunteers are Compassionate Companions. These volunteers commit to a weekly 5-hour shift, or a couple of weekend shifts per month, and become a community of caregivers for our residents. These dedicated volunteers help with fixing a meal, housekeeping, and sitting bedside, offering companionship, Compassionate Companions serve residents just as they would care for a loved one at a home, providing care in shifts 7 to noon, noon to 5 pm and 5 pm to 10 pm, 7 days a week. You'll have the ability to schedule yourself with an easy-to-use app or by signing in to a website. Our weekday morning shift has few recurring openings in the schedule and we are only adding volunteers who can serve afternoons and evenings any day of the week, and volunteers for all shifts on the weekends.
Being a compassionate companion doesn't require medical training, as the role is non-medical. However, our retired nurse Compassionate Companions say they love being a part of our compassionate community because it gives them an opportunity to care for people that they didn't get when working. Our ratio is no more than 3 residents to 2 compassionate companions.
If you are interested in joining our community of Compassionate Companions, head over to our website hildegardhouse.org to submit the volunteer interest form. Our volunteer manager will be in touch to schedule a tour of the house and register you for one of our monthly training sessions. Compassionate Companions must be over the age of 18.

Mission Statement
We provide care and compassion to individuals at the end of life who have no home or family so they may die with dignity.
Description
We are a comfort care home, providing quality end of life care to individuals who have no family or home so that they may access hospice services. We do not bill insurance or charge residents, relying solely on charitable contributions and community support. Our Compassionate Companion volunteers serve as the residents' family during the last months of their lives and provide the kind of care one would provide to someone in their own home at the end of life (personal care, feeding, companionship, etc).
