ORGANIZATION: Idealist.org

Recruiting Organization: FUMC/MLK Tutoring Center

The FUMC (First United Methodist Church of Grand Rapids) is looking for caring adults who would like to spend approximately 90 minutes per week working on reading and literacy with kindergarten, 1st, and/or 2nd graders who attend Martin Luther King Leadership Academy (a Grand Rapids Public School). Tutoring takes place during the school day and runs from October through mid-May. However, the Center accepts new volunteers throughout the school year.

  • Experience is optional in education to volunteer.
  • All volunteers must pass a background check.
  • All volunteers must attend two one-hour training sessions.
  • All materials are provided, ensuring you have everything you need to make a difference in these children's lives.

Our tutoring program at MLK is a beacon of hope for the children we serve. Volunteers like you who commit to a weekly session play a crucial role in shaping these young minds. This is FUMC'S 36th year of partnership with the Martin Luther King Leadership Academy!
