Volunteer with Atlanta GLOW at DeKalb County High Schools

Join Atlanta GLOW in making a difference in the lives of DeKalb County high school students! We're seeking dedicated volunteers to support our 2024-2025 school year programs. Opportunities include:

  • Career Speakers: Share with DCSD high school students industry-specific insight into the professional's career journey including their educational pathway, major roles held, networking tips, key successes and challenges overcame. Engage in Q&A with students. A Canva presentation template with prompts will be provided.
    • Upcoming Priority Date: September 25th, 10 am @ Cross Keys High School (Law, Government and Public Policy Professionals)
  • Workshop Presenters: Present an engaging 60-minute workshop on a specified college or career readiness subject to DCSD high school students. Engage in Q&A with students.
  • Resume Helpers & Mock Interviewers: Support DCSD high school students in building a mock resume or building upon an existing one. Support DCSD high school students in practicing interviewing skills using a mock scenario. Provide students constructive feedback on improving interview skills.
    • Upcoming Priority Date: December 18th, 10 am @ Cross Keys High School (Law, Government and Public Policy Professionals)
  • Group Mentors: Support DCSD students in starting or submitting college applications using the Common Application (https://www.commonapp.org). Provide students feedback in brainstorming college essay responses. All students have Chromebooks provided by the DSCD.
    • Upcoming Priority Date: November 20th, 10 am @ Cross Keys High School

Sessions are in-person on Wednesday mornings (between 8 am - 11 am) at schools like Stephenson, Stone Mountain, and Cross Keys. Your time and expertise can help shape the future of these young students.

Description

Founded in 2014, Atlanta Growing Leadership Of Women (GLOW) is a faith-based 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that serves young women and girls, ages 14-25, from underserved communities. We want to see more girls grow up with the vision and motivation to change the pattern of poverty for themselves and future generations. Therefore, trough our mentoring and life skills programs, Atlanta GLOW models and teaches the social-emotional, leadership and life skills they need to successfully transition to adulthood and become thriving, active members of society.

  • Background Check
  • Must be at least 25
  • 1-1.5 hours of volunteerism, with roughly 2-3 hours of advanced preparation.
