Renewal Food Bank is an independent nonprofit organization dedicated to food rescue and providing food to those experiencing food insecurity. Customers can shop weekly and receive produce, meat, shelf-stable groceries, baby supplies, pet food, and hygiene items. Renewal is a vibrant community space where families and volunteers return week after week. We strive to serve our families’ holistic needs, providing access to food as well as a sense of community and belonging.

Reports to: Renewal Food Bank Executive Director

Location: Onsite

Position Summary

The Volunteer Grant Writer will play a crucial role in our fundraising efforts by researching, drafting, and collaborating with the fundraising team to complete grant proposals. We seek to apply to foundations, corporations, and government agencies. This role requires a detail-oriented individual with strong writing and research skills who can work independently to meet deadlines. Our fundraising team is small and has many other responsibilities, so the ability to work independently and drive projects is critical.

Key Responsibilities

  • Researching: Identifying potential grant opportunities that align with the organization’s mission and programs.

  • Proposal Writing: Writing compelling grant proposals, including narratives, budgets, and supporting documents.

  • Collaborating: Working closely with the Executive Director, Development Manager, and other team members to gather necessary information for proposals and ensure timely submission.

Qualifications

  • Experience: Previous experience in nonprofit grant writing or a related field is required

  • Writing Skills: Excellent written communication skills with the ability to craft persuasive and clear grant proposals.

  • Research Skills: Strong research abilities to identify potential funding sources and gather relevant information for proposals.

  • Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail, ensuring accuracy and completeness in all grant-related documents.

  • Time Management: Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.

  • Passion: A strong commitment to the mission of Renewal Food Bank.

  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and familiarity with grant management software (if applicable).

As a member of the Northwest Harvest and Food Lifeline hunger relief network, Renewal Food Bank has served more than 500,000 individuals since opening the doors in 1998. Each week over 300 families visit our centrally located center to choose from a variety of nutritious options donated by a very supportive community.
