As a Coat and Parcel Check Volunteer at the Portland Art Museum you will be working alongside the Visitor Services team helping to create a comfortable and welcoming environment for our visitors. This position provides secure storage and return of guest’s personal items while visiting the Museum. This position will be stationed in the coat check area throughout the shift.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

- Greet guests as they arrive and securely check in their coats, bags, and other belongings.

- Issue numbered tags to guests and ensure that the corresponding tag is securely attached to their items.

- Safely store guest's belongings in an organized manner to prevent damage or loss.

- Retrieve items promptly and accurately when guests return to claim their belongings.

- Address any inquiries or concerns from guests in a polite and helpful manner.

- Keep the coat check area clean and organized.

- Thank guests who are leaving the Museum and invite them to return.

REQUIREMENTS

- All volunteers serve as valued ambassadors of the museum, promoting a welcoming and inclusive environment for all guests, ensuring that every visitor feels respected and appreciated.

- Friendly, approachable and helpful demeanor.

- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

- Comfortable working well in a high visitor traffic setting.

- Attention to detail and organizational skills to keep track of coats and belongings accurately.

- Requires prolonged periods of remaining in a stationary position, lifting up to 20 pounds.

- Reaching overhead and bending.

- Comfortable working in a small enclosed workspace.

TIME COMMITMENT

- Shifts needed: Saturdays or Sundays from Noon until 4 pm. (At least a 4 hour shift per month for the next 6 months)

- Occasional evening shifts may be made available for special events.
