RUP (Roseland University Prep) and RCP (Roseland Collegiate Prep) are seeking mentors for a one-on-one relationship starting in the student's junior year. These are students who apply to the program, are interested in having an extra support as they navigate the end of high school, and starting to think about their post-secondary plans. The time commitment is two face to face meetings per month, and is very flexible. There is support and training available from the program coordinators, as well as from the schools. The only real requirement is for mentors to be a positive and encouraging person in the mentee's life as they finish high school and look beyond.

Mission Statement

Roseland University Prep is a small college preparatory high school located in the heart of the Roseland Community. Roseland University Prep opened in 2004 with the purpose of giving each student the opportunity to take college prep classes which would prepare them to attend a four-year university. The mission of Roseland University Prep is to offer students a small learning community with the promise to help support high school graduation and preparation for college. Our mission is driven by four basic principles: Academic Excellence, Individualized Learning, Shared Commitment, and a Small Learning Environment.

Description

Most of the students at Roseland University Prep will be first generation high school graduates, and many of them come from low-income households, where English is a second-language. They have the drive and desire to achieve great things, but most lack the support, guidance and resources at home to help them reach their full potential. RUP does a great job of keeping them up to date on all the hoops to jump through to make it in the college world, but some students really want the extra help, support and expertise of a one-on-one mentor relationship. The mentorship program began when we noticed that our students were graduating and meeting the requirements to attend college, but many were dropping out their first year.
