Join our team as a Communication Partner and make a difference in the lives of stroke and brain injury survivors with aphasia. In this role, you'll work closely with our skilled Speech-Language Pathologists to assist in daily programs that facilitate communication and enhance the quality of life for our participants.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support stroke and brain injury survivors with aphasia in communication exercises and activities.
  • Assist Speech-Language Pathologists in implementing and facilitating daily communication programs.
  • Help with key wording and other strategies to enhance communication efforts.
  • Provide encouragement and foster a positive, supportive environment for participants.

Mission The Houston Aphasia Recovery Center (HARC) provides a wellness program, education, advocacy and resources for people with aphasia, their caregivers, and the greater Houston medical community, creating a safe haven where participants come for therapeutic socialization and long-term recovery. Vision The Houston Aphasia Recovery Center (HARC) is the premier resource in Houston for those whose lives are affected by aphasia and for the medical community. Participants and caregivers come to HARC for supported communication, recreation, and camaraderie to fully participate in life. At HARC we dedicate ourselves to generating awareness and support, facilitating research, and fostering wellness and recovery in a life-affirming environment.

Description

Through supported communication programs our volunteers assist HARC in providing wellness programs, advocacy and resources for people with Aphasia (loss of language due to a stroke or brain injury), their caregivers and the Greater Houston Medical Community.
